Objective:

Development and transfer of technology to the public and private health sectors to offer a telemedicine tool for remote monitoring of cerebrovascular accident patients: Virtual Physio.

FK Solution:

For this project our team develops and improves a basic software prototype that currently already allows remote monitoring of rehabilitation exercises performed by cerebrovascular accident patients.

We do this through a game-based Virtual Reality system. Each game is composed of an avatar and a series of virtual spheres representing virtual trajectories.

The system rewards the user by increasing their score for correctly completing a repetition. In addition, it includes tutorials that allow the user to see how to complete the rehabilitation exercise.

The Virtual Physio environment provides a system that allows the therapist to supervise the rehabilitation of their patients, offering enormous possibilities:

  • It is a system oriented towards personalising each patient’s routine according to their needs.
  • Each routine is based on a series of exercises that are in themselves defined by the limbs that the user is going to exercise, a number of repetitions and a maximum time.
  • The therapist can also consult the patient’s statistics, such as performance or activity time.
  • The interaction is based on contextual voice commands and it is possible to extend the content of the system with new rehabilitation routines and exergames.
  • Designed for use in hospitals and rehabilitation centres where one therapist can supervise several patients simultaneously.
  • Once the patient is familiar with the training and rehabilitation system, and should they need to continue to improve their condition, they can continue to use the Virtual Physio system from their own home for their own convenience. In this way, he would avoid having to travel to the health centre and hospital.

With this and other FK projects we contribute to the transfer of technology and improve the quality of life of cerebrovascular accident patients.
